Robert N. Grove, Ed.D., 96, died Feb. 28, 2015, at Liza's House Personal Care Home, R Danielsville He was the husband of the late Edith Mae Reinhold) Grove of Lancaster County.
Born in Spring Garden Township, he was a son of the late Manus Harrison Grove and Lillie M. (Kunkle) Grove.
He was a 1935 graduate of West York High School. He earned degrees from Millersville University and Temple University and a master's degree in educational administration from Teachers College, Columbia University.
He attended military officer candidate school.
He was a first lieutenant in the ordinance corps in the U.S. Army and was posted in immediate post-war Germany.
He taught in elementary schools in Wellsville and Paradise. He taught physics, chemistry and biology in East Calico Township High School where he was a supervising principal for a time. He was an administrative assistant superintendent of the Chattanooga, Tenn. public schools. He was a superintendent in Midland Park, N.J.; Springfield School District; and in the Northampton Area School District from 1974 until he retired in 1981.
He devoted himself to improving education for all students, especially for those who were economically disadvantaged.
He was active in his church, political party and with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
He is survived by two sons: Cornelius "Neal" L. and his wife Christine of New York City, N.Y. and Cordell "Dell" A. of Lehigh Township; a brother; Stephenson K. Grove of York County; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, with one expected soon.
He was predeceased by a brother, George.
